There is no excuse to stay home in Fort Edward with the excuse that there is nothing to do.  There are many opportunities to get out doors for some great recreation and fun in the Village and Town, and there are certainly many recreational activities just a short distance away. 

No matter what the season, Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall there are are numerous activities to apply one's time.  Situated just a few short miles from the Adirondack Park and Lake George, Fort Edward is a great base for those folks that enjoy the outdoors, regardless of the time of year.

In the Winter, there are numerous opportunities to enjoy the outdoors with many major ski slopes within a short distance away as well as hundreds of miles of groomed Snowmobile Trails and cross country skiing trails.

There is also the Lake George Winter Carnival in February with all of its excitement and of course the traditional Polar Bear Swim on New Years. And for those that enjoy ice skating, Crandel Park is a short distance away in Glens Falls.

 

The Spring offers a multitude of outdoor activities including fishing in the hundreds of lakes and rivers nearby.

As the ice leaves the lakes and the snows swell the rivers with runoff, some of the best fishing around.

Summer time opens up the recreational spectrum to a greater extent thanks to the Fort Edward Recreation Department who schedules many activities for all age groups.  The Fort Edward Chamber of Commerce sponsors many events including Heritage Days.  This is a 3 day event usually held on the weekend following the Fourth of July weekend.  Vendors, food, crafts, musicians, rides, fireworks and a parade provide a fun filled opportunity for all.

 

 

The Fall comes with cool nights and warm days and there is no shortage of activities to take part in.  For those that appreciate the beauty of the changing leaves, there are day trips and destinations galore to view the foliage.   The best time to view the foliage is at the height of color is generally late September through late October each year. 

The crown event in the fall is the world class Adirondack Hot Air Balloon Festival which is held in late September each year.  Featuring over a hundred balloons each year, this 3 day event draws tens of thousands of visitors each year to the area.
