The Village of Fort Edward NY

The Village of Fort Edward offers a wide range of municipal services to its residents.  Located on the main travel corridor from New York to Vermont, it has excellent transportation links to the world.

Fort Edward actually consists of two independent forms of Government, the Town of Fort Edward and the Village of Fort Edward.  The Village lies within the boundaries of the Town of Fort Edward geographically.  The Village is governed by a Village Board which consists of four members and the Mayor while the Town has a Town Board with four members and a Supervisor.

Both municipalities have zoning and subdivision regulations and both require building permits.  Each municipality has a justice court with a full-time court clerk.

The Village and Town of Fort Edward are served by a 24 hour on call volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Department which has six apparatus.  Police protection is provided in the village be a full time Police Department.  Town police protection is provided by the Washington County Sheriff Department and the New York State Police.  Each of these Public Safety organizations can be reached in an emergency by dialing 911.
